At Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary we believe volunteers are equal partners in the accomplishment of our mission. We have special event, program and administration volunteer opportunities available year round.
This year make a New Year's resolution you'll want to keep!
Volunteer - share a talent or skill with a great group of youth in our HANGAR (731 - 13 Ave. NE)!
We are looking for a number of volunteers to help run after school and evening programs Monday through Friday - Starting in January 2012.
After school programs will run from 3:30-6:00pm and evening programs will run from 6:30-8:30pm.
"O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" We are looking for an engaging, dynamic volunteer to share their love of the theatre and acting with youth. Activities could include acting out scenes from famous plays, improv work, writing a script and having the youth star in their own skits.
Say Cheese! Do you enjoy taking pictures and take your camera everywhere you go? Would you like to share your love of photography and teach youth the ins and outs behind the lens? Photography sessions might include how to use a digital camera, tips for taking great pictures, trips around the neighbourhood, and lots more fun.
Were you the class clown? Do you love to make other people not just smile but laugh out loud? If so we are looking for you to help youth learn how to write and perform jokes, share your knowledge of comedy genres - slapstick, stand up, sitcom and farce, and maybe even create your own production for an audience of staff and parents!
All the world's a stage so bust a move! Share your passion for dance with youth - line dance, ballroom, hip hop, tap, jazz.... choreograph and teach a fun routine from one of these genres, and share why dance is an important part of a healthy lifestyle and can be used as a form of expression and social interaction.
Keep warm during the winter months and run your own arts and crafts class. Show youth how to make jewellery, scrapbook or sketch and paint. The options for some fun in-door activities are endless. Help youth create some exciting, crafty works of art and even set up a mini gallery in the HANGAR to showcase the masterpieces!
Every step counts - help vulnerable youth and young adults (age 13 - 24) take a step in the right direction. If you have three hours a week to give for the next 12 months we'd like to hear from you! Four of our programs are looking for mentors. Click here for more information.
Our Falconridge Community Club is looking for a Jr. Floor Hockey league volunteer! This league is for 9-12 year olds and runs on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30-8:30pm (Sept 28-Dec 14). Come on out for a fun, yet slightly competitive game of floor hockey! Not that they are bragging, but the Falconridge club has won the league for the last number of years!
Share your special talents with youth and help them to develop theirs! Our SCRIPT program is looking for volunteers to build relationships and support at risk youth through fun, interactive activities such as making jewellery, baking, yoga, sewing, and various art projects. Volunteers should be able to make a regular weekly commitment between 5:00 and 9:00pm.
Interested in running an after school or evening program?We are looking for teachers, artists, singers, dancers, and more...that can commit once a week to an 8-12 week class to enhance our program offerings. After school programs run from 3:00 - 6:00pm and evening programs are held between 6:00 - 9:00pm.
Volunteers with a truck and the ability to do some heavy lifting are needed, approximately once a month, to help a homeless youth move into their first home! The Independent Living Program offers supported living arrangements in community settings. Young people are provided with resources and supports that help them to develop their own self-sufficiency and independence.
Do you have coaching or referee skills? We are looking for a volunteer to spend some Friday and Saturday evenings coaching basket ball games. The BGCC Beltline Youth Centre provides social, recreational, and educational opportunities for primarily immigrant and aboriginal youth, ages 12-24.
Administration Guru? The Bowness Community Club is looking for a volunteer to come in at least once a week to do some administrative tasks for a couple of hours. This volunteer position is flexible with the volunteer's availability.
